A Window of Opportunities
Are you or someone you know new to the workforce, unemployed, looking for a better job, seeking a fresh start in life, or just wanting to build or revive a career? If so, the Career Development Services Department of the Columbus Urban League is a great place to start.
Career Development Services provide workforce development services for African-Americans and other persons through training, skill development, vocational assessment and placement assistance services.
We offer educational links and job preparation programs for those who experience barriers to employment. Our goal is to provide individuals with customized career development services that will equip them for today's labor market.
All programs are at no cost to participants and are offered at the offices of the Columbus Urban League, 788 Mount Vernon Ave.

Am I eligible to participate?
Each program has specific age, gender, income or other requirements for participation. Review the program overviews to determine if you qualify.
What does it cost?
There is no cost to individuals in Career Development Services programs. For certain programs, participants may receive transportation assistance for training, as well as, interviewing.
Can you guarantee me a job?
The goal of Career Development Services is to open a window of opportunities for those that participate in our programs through education, skills development training, job placement assistance and employment resources. We provide guidance, career planning and referral services for job seekers that assist in a successful transition to work. However, we cannot guarantee a job.

| Future Leaders Infiltrating Greater Heights Through Training – FLIGHTT |
| Assisting unemployed persons, women in transition and others that are experiencing barriers to employment. |

FLIGHTT assists unemployed individuals, with an emphasis on African-American women and others leaving public assistance, that are experiencing significant barriers finding full and part-time employment.
The program offers:
- Personal development, job readiness and basic computer training
- Mock interview preparation
- Vocational identity assessment
- Career planning
- Job placement assistance
- Supportive services
- Five hours of daily classroom sessions, Monday through Thursday
- Transportation assistance

Defining Achieving Purpose - DAP
Preparing young African-American males for the workplace
DAP connects African-American males between the ages of 18-29 to education and employment opportunities using a culturally-sensitive approach. Key components of the program include:
- Personal development, cultural enrichment and basic computer training
- Infusion of core values of Kwanzaa principles
- Role modeling sessions
- Vocational identify assessment
- Multiple intelligence assessment
- Off-site team building activities
- Career planning
- Post placement assistance
- Mock interview
- Supportive services
- Five hours of daily classroom sessions Monday through Thursday |

Urban Youth Empowerment – UYEP
Reconnecting out-of-school and adjudicated youth to employment through education
Offers low-income "At-Risk" youth ages 18-21 that are out of school, aging out of foster care, young African-American males and adjudicated youth.
The Program consists of:
- Personal development training
- Community service internships
- Employment internships
- Job placement assistance
- GED or high school diploma preparation
- College prep training
- Financial compensation for internships
- Transportation assistance
- Classroom sessions Monday through Thursday
- Supportive services
- Off-site team-building activities
- Post placement support for up to one year |

| By the end of the program participants will be able to earn a GED or high school diploma, prepared for employment, gain assistance in enrolling into college, or enroll in one of a number of occupational training. |

Urban Career Connections - UCC
Offers individualized professional employment counseling to "At-Risk individuals recently laid off and those underemployed.
The services include:
- Individualized career counseling
- Skill assessment
- Transferable skills analysis
- Supportive services
- Information and assistance with gaining access to training and or retraining resources
- Mock interviewing
- Assistance with resumes and on-line job applications
- Special job search sessions and workshops facilited by local HR experts
- Internet access for job searches
- Copiers, fax machines, phones and other office equipment
- Job listings, referrals and hiring events
- Post placement support for no less than six months |
